Officers

W.Q. Parker, Vice President
C.J. Cutter, Clerk, Treasurer

The purpose of the Florence ACL Employees Credit Union was twofold:

(1) To create thrift through savings of the employee and
(2) To provide credit at a minimum rate of interest for members desiring the same.

The credit union opened for business on January 4, 1954, in a small corner room furnished by the railroad, adjacent to the passenger station. On April 3, 1959, the Director of the Atlantic Coast Line YMCA donated larger office space for the growing credit union. Mr. J.C. DeVane served as founding President, followed by Mr. J.W. Mathews, affectionately known as "Pee Wee", who served as President from 1955 until 1974.

In 1967, a two-story house was purchased on Day Street, which was remodeled as a new office for the credit union. Due to an Urban Renewal Program the location proved to be temporary, and the current office at 1722 Gregg Avenue was constructed.

The name of the credit union began as Florence ACL Employees Credit Union, changed to Florence SCL Employees Credit Union, then to Florence Seaboard Credit Union, and finally to Seaboard Trust Federal Credit Union. These name changes reflect the many changes that the railroads have seen over the years.

Through the years, Seaboard Trust Federal Credit Union has relied on the support of railroad employees and their families to become the strong financial institution that it is today. Seaboard Trust is fortunate to have added several other employer groups, growing the current membership to over 7,000.

On January 1, 2004 Seabord Trust changed their name to Palmetto First Federal Credit Union to reflect their change in charter.  We were approved for a community charter, which allows all persons who live, work, worship, attend school, or business and other legal entities located in Florence County to join Palmetto First.
